Youth Ambassadors – Health Access & Social Mobilization: Applications Open for High School Students with a $200 Scholarship

If you are a High School student in Charlotte (NC), Raleigh (NC), or Goose Creek (SC) and want to lead actions that improve health access in your community, this program is for you. It consists of 8 months of training, with two sessions per month (one online lab and one monthly practical action), plus an in-person seminar in Charlotte in March, with all costs covered by EMBRACE.


Openings

  • 6 spots per city (Charlotte, Raleigh, and Goose Creek) – a total of 18 openings


Period and Timeline

  • Applications: August 26 – September 15, 2025

  • Results by email: no later than September 30, 2025

  • Program start: October 2025 – Program end: May 2026

  • In-person seminar: March 2026, in Charlotte (costs covered)


Who Can Apply

  • Students in 9th–12th grade (ages 14–18) living/studying in the mentioned regions

  • Interest in public health, social mobilization, communication, and leadership

  • Parent/guardian authorization (for minors)


How to Apply (Step by Step)

  1. Complete the application form: https://form.jotform.com/252374079370157

  2. Record a simple video of up to 2 minutes on your phone (no editing). Say your name, city, and school, and answer:

    • Who are you, and why do you want to be an EMBRACE Ambassador in Health Access and Social Mobilization?

  3. Submit the video link (Drive/YouTube as “unlisted”) directly in the form.

  4. Wait for the email with the results by September 30.



What You Will Learn and Do

  • Fundamentals of public health and social determinants of health

  • Health communication, fighting misinformation, and digital campaigns

  • Navigation and referral to local health services

  • Leadership, group facilitation, and community action organizing

  • Planning and executing campaigns and events with partners

Benefits Upon Completion

  • $200 financial incentive

  • A laptop

  • Certificate of completion and EMBRACE Ambassador in Health Access

  • Official statement of volunteer service hours for High School and résumé

  • Recommendation letter signed by the Executive Director

  • Additional scholarship: one ambassador will receive $1,000 to support college application and related expenses

  • Territorial representation and diversity of experiences

  • Clarity, creativity, and respect for video time


Video Tips

No need for special production: speak clearly, choose a quiet place with good lighting, and just be yourself.
